Pharmacist Jobs In Australia

Pharmacist Jobs Australia - Locations include: Sydney, Melbourne and Gold Coast
Pharmacists are primarily responsible for the safe preparation, proper dispense and quality use of prescribed medicines in accordance with government standards, controls and regulations. On a daily basis, Pharmacists’ core duties include medicine preparations according to physician’s orders, and counseling of patients on the appropriate use of prescribed drugs and over-the-counter medicines and their contraindications, if any. They are also expected to review, monitor and assess the effectiveness of drug therapies. They assist with the research, testing, and development of medical drug products in collaboration with Chemists and Manufacturing Engineers in pharmaceutical companies. Nonetheless, the majority of them still work in retail drugstores, pharmacies in the community, hospitals, and other healthcare facilities.
To become a Pharmacist in the country, one must have a relevant Bachelor’s Degree or higher, as well as a Post-Graduate Development year prior to registration or licensing with the Pharmacy Board of Australia (PBA). In the case of overseas qualified pharmacists seeking general registration in the country, passing an examination under the Australian Pharmacy Council (APC) is a pre-requisite to licensing, followed by either a full local internship or a short period of ‘’supervised practice’’ under a limited local registration. Once supervised local practice is at least 75% completed, the overseas Pharmacist may commence with the Board’s registration assessment which may include oral examinations. Full Australian registration can be obtained only upon completion of the ‘’supervised practice hours’’ and after passing the Board exam/assessment.
Starting base pay for an Intern Pharmacist ranges from $50,000 to $60,000 per annum, and for full-time experienced Pharmacists, base pay usually starts at $70,000 base per annum. Increasing demand for prescription medications is likely to bring about higher demands for pharmaceutical services.
