Health and Welfare Support Workers aid health professionals in the provision of patient care in hospitals, nursing homes and other health and community-based care facilities, and provide support, information and advice to clients on a range of social welfare concerns. Common duties include:

attend accidents and injuries by providing pre-hospital care and transport

plan and roll-out leisure activity programs for individuals in health care and in the community to assist in patient’s social development and well-being

evaluate, plan and implement nursing care for patients according to accepted nursing practise and standards

help in the advocacy and education in the provision and coordination of health care delivery to indigenous communities

advise clients on emotional, recreational, health, financial, housing and other social welfare issues
Minimum requirements for Health and Welfare Support Workers include a diploma, three years of relevant experience, and registration.
